a rush of purple
Sunday morning, Wayne and I rushed for tickets to the Color Purple, which meant getting up at 7:30am and waiting in the rush line til noon when the box office opened. (The early morning run and the cold seriously tested the limits of my addiction to Broadway). The morning temp hovered around 34 degrees.
But I had to get tickets to Sunday's show because it was the last day that Felicia P. Fields would perform her role of Sophia (<--Oprah's part in the movie). The photo shows me in my rolling-out-of bed state, freezing, looking like an eskimo. The nice Starbucks man next to the theater kept on coming out with samples of hot chocolate and cinnamon dolce latte for us waiting in line. Yum. After going home, thawing out, and putting in my contacts...I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Felicia rocked the house, and I realized that it was also Harpo's (Brandon Victor Dixon) last night as well.
I was so sad to see one of the greatest current couples on Broadway exit the stage. Walking out of the theater, I went into an existential crisis...
"The show will never be the same! Broadway will never be the same...no wait, THEATER will never be the same..."
Wayne tried to comfort me, and telling me life will go on (and probably thinking theater is still going to be ok since Jersey Boys is still on Broadway)...but I will definitely miss Harpo & Sophia.
